Error description

  • In a cell profile, the deployment manager profile's copy of
    the appserver's node-level variables.xml contains deployment
manager's path for the product file system. It should
contain the value the user entered for the appserver
    product file system.

    ****************************************************************
When a cell profile is created, the deployment manager
    profile's copy of the application server's node-level
variables.xml is incorrect. Specifically, the value of
    smpe.install.root in the WAS_SERVER_ONLY_default_jvm_options
points to the product path for the deployment manager copy of
the WebSphere code, not the application server's copy.

The application server's install copy of the node-level
variables.xml is correct, but upon node synchronization, this
is replaced with the incorrect copy held by the deployment
    manager.

This incorrect value variables.xml can cause the application
server node (node agent and application server(s)) to fail at
startup if the deployment manager's product path is unavailable.

Problem conclusion

  • At profile creation time, the application server's product
install path was not passed to the manageprofiles tool.
Changes were required to the z/OS Profile Management Tool
(zPMT) and to the scripts invoked by manageprofiles, to
correctly pass in this value and act upon it.

Activation of the fix for PK83052, which affects cell
profiles only, requires that an updated version of the zPMT be
used at cell profile creation time. This requirement is in
addition to application of fixpack 6.1.0.27. If an
appropriate level of zPMT is not used, then the behavior of
cell profile creation reverts to that before fixpack 6.1.0.27
was applied. The zPMT tool should be updated to version
6.1.0.27 along with the application of fixpack 6.1.0.27
to the WebSphere for z/OS product.

    Refer to URL:
    http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27004980
to download the latest fix pack for the IBM WebSphere
Customization Tools, which contains the zPMT.

Users who created cell profiles without this service
installed, and who intended their deployment manager and
managed node to use different installation root directories,
should correct the application server installation root value
using the following procedure. The procedure is only
necessary for cell profiles in which a different product
install path is being used for the deployment manager and
application server parts of the cell.

Log in to the administrative console, and navigate to
Environment > WebSphere variables. Use this panel to edit the
    WAS_SERVER_ONLY_default_jvm_options variable for the
    application server node. Change
    -Dsmpe.install.root=<product_install_root> to the correct
value for your application server node.

APAR PK83052 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
Level (Fix Pack) 6.1.0.27 of WebSphere Application Server V6.1
    for z/OS.
