PK78875: APPLICATION SERVER LIST POPULATION IN CONSOLE TAKES A LONG TIME TO DISPLAY

Error description

This APAR was introduced to improve performance in console. We
have seen in larger topology configurations where after clicking
the link in console, it takes a large amount of time to populate
the server list in the panel.

For example:

Servers

* Application servers

We have seen more than 50 JVMs where it is taking more than
10 minutes to populate, and some times it won't display.

The console issues a "listServers" command immediately:
[1/13/09 11:52:50:138 CST] 000008fe ServerUtilImp 3 serverType
passed to listServers Command APPLICATION_SERVER

And gets result back 8 minutes later...

After we get the list of servers, we run the "showServerInfo"
command on each of the servers. Each "showServerInfo" takes
about 5 seconds. Console invokes "showServerInfo" command at:
[1/13/09 12:00:04:321 CST] 000008fe ServerUtilImp 3
serverObjName

So it appears as if the "listServers" and "showServerInfo"
commands are consuming the time. The total time for the
administrative console in the trace is 12 minutes and the
commands consume most of that time.

ListServers.java creates commands using the command
framework to get the server type, which is an expensive
operation.

Problem conclusion

Do not use the command framework to get the server type,
instead make a call to ConfigServices to get the server type.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 6.0.2.35, 6.1.0.25 and 7.0.0.5.  Please refer to the
