Error description

  • NullPointerException when customer is trying to invoke
    operation on his own JMX custom mbean through MBean proxy and
    "type" key-property is not defined in custom mbean's
    descriptor.xml.

Local fix

  • To ensure that Custom MBean descriptor XML file has the
    key-property "type", this APAR PK78743 was introduce for Custom
    MBean where client forgot to include the type in descriptor XML
    file.

    <MBean type="SnoopMBean"

    E.g

    Descriptor XML will be like this:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE MBean SYSTEM "MbeanDescriptor.dtd">
    <MBean type="SnoopMBean"
    version="5.0"
    platform="dynamicproxy"
    description="Sample SnoopMBean to be initialized inside an
    EJB.">

    * RECOMMENDATION: Custom MBean descriptor needs to have *
    *                  MBean key-properties (Eg. type, name,       *
    * cell, node, process) especially if customer *

    * If key properties are not set in the *
    * MBean ObjectName, the MBean can still be *
    * registered in the MBeanServer, but no *
    * distributed services provided by WebSphere *
    * will be usable for this MBean. Without *
    * these key properties the MBean will only *
    * be accessible within the JVM where it is *
    *                  registered.                                 *

    * Key properties are also useful for faster *
