Error description

The following message:

CWSAD0016W: The target myModuleWS.war module on myNode node
cannot be reached because the module and the node require the
Feature Pack for Web Services.

has the following explanation:

Explanation: The module contains JAXWS Web Services that is
required for the Feature Pack for Web Services.

When a JAX-WS web module is being targetted to a web server,
logically, since web servers aren't involved with JAX-WS, you
would think that they wouldn't require nodes with feature pack
augmentation.  When you get this message when only targetting a
web module, given the message and its explanation, it can be
confusing and users may think that they have received it in
error.

When a web module from JAX-WS service is mapped to a web
server, the web server needs to be defined on a node with
feature pack augmentation.  If it isn't, when the mapping is
attempted, an exception similar to the following occurs:

CWSAD0016W: The target myModuleWS.war module on myNode node
cannot be reached because the module and the node require the
Feature Pack for Web Services.

The explanation for this message is:

Explanation: The module contains JAXWS Web Services that is
required for the Feature Pack for Web Services.

Although the message and explanation for the exception is
accurate since the target node managing the web server is
the subject of the error and not the web server itself, the
explanation could be updated so that the reason for the error
is more clear to administrators of web servers.

Problem conclusion

The explanation for CWSAD0016W was changed to the following:

The module contains JAX-WS Web Services and requires the
Feature Pack for Web Services. To map a Web module from an
application that requires feature pack functionality even
though the Web server does not have feature pack
functionality, define the Web server on a node with feature
pack augmentation.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 6.1.0.25 and 7.0.0.5.  Please refer to the
