Error description

  • When a client sends an "Expect: 100-Continue" header,
    IBM HTTP Server sends EBCDIC characters in the continue
    message. The HTTP protocol specifies that all such messages
    should be ASCII.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM HTTP Server on z/OS *
    * using clients that issue Expect headers. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Protocol data not translated to ASCII *
    * before transmission                                          *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply this fix if custom clients are failing *
    * while expecting a "100 Continue" message                     *
    ****************************************************************
    The "100 Continue" status line is transmitted in a way unique
    among other protocol data, so it did not receive the implicit
    translation of all other protocol data.

Problem conclusion

  • The "100 Continue" message is translated from the host
    character set to ASCII.
