Error description
ThreadPool is not creating enough threads in high load situations and/or when long running tasks are submitted. Websphere Application Server v 6.0.2.21
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server users of * * ThreadPool * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The ThreadPool is not creating enough * * threads in high load situations and/or * * when long running tasks are submitted. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The condition used by ThreadPool to create a new thread was based on the number of active threads. There was a small window of time between a worker thread requesting new work and when it actually receives the work where the number of active threads was temporarily decremented. If new work is submitted during this window of time, ThreadPool may incorrectly determine that it is not necessary to create a new worker thread.
Problem conclusion
A new condition, based on the number of waiting threads, is now used to correctly determine when a new worker thread should be created. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 6.0.2.37, 6.1.0.27, and 7.0.0.5.
