PK76816: RAS COLLECTOR REMOVES SUBDIRECTORIES THAT CAN CONTAIN CRUCIAL DATA

Error description

Current collector behavior is to remove the WAS and OS
subDirectories of the current directory.  With WebSphere
Business Events, the WAS directory can contain the Application
Server installation components of the WBE install.  Thus, if
someone is using Collector from that parent directory, they can
remove the entire WebSphere installation.  While it is an
error to run Collector from that type of directory, the tool
does not check this prior to removing those directories.
Collector needs to be modified so that it does not remove
those directories without at least confirming with the operator.

If collector is run from in a WebSphere Business Events  (WBE)
install from the base directory, it can remove key
sub-directories including the Application Server install itself.

Problem conclusion

The Collector removes and creates WAS and OS subDirectories
where-ever it runs.  It should always be run from a clean
directory.  It does not, however, enforce this.  This apar
came up because WBE uses the directory name "WAS" for their
WebSphere Application Server pre-Req install.  Running
collector from the wrong directory can cause it to wipe out the
Application Server install for WBE.  This code change simply
checks for WAS and OS in the current directory and will not
run if they are there.  An IO Exception is thrown and the
exception message states that there is a WAS (or OS)
subDirectory and collector should be run from a different
location or the directory should be manually removed.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 6.0.2.33, 6.1.0.23 and 7.0.0.5.  Please refer
