Error description

  • The Tivoli Performance Viewer Advisor incorrectly generates the
    "TUNE5006W: The JIT is disabled on the JVM" alert message when
    JIT is actually enabled. This occurs after enabling the
    following trace on the application server and generating the
    Tivoli Performance Viewer log...

    com.ibm.ws.performance.tuning.*=all:
    UI.TivoliPerformanceViewer=all=enabled:
    TivoliPerformanceViewer=all=enabled:
    com.ibm.ws.console.tpv.*=all=enabled:
    com.ibm.ws.tpv.*=all=enabled

    The resulting Tivoli Performance Viewer log will incorreclty
    contain the following entry...

    <configInfo
    id="com.ibm.ws.performance.tuning.serverAlert.calc.config.Server
    RJvmConfigCalc">
    <configParam key="disableJIT" cls="java.lang.Boolean"
    val="true"/>

    However, the application server trace.log and SystemOut.log will
    contain the following correct information stating that JIT is
    enabled (this is from a Windows installation)...

    Java version = J2RE 1.5.0 IBM J9 2.3 Windows XP x86-32
    j9vmwi3223-20071007 (JIT enabled)

    Also, the application server server.xml file will NOT contain
    the disableJIT="true" entry.

    ****************************************************************
    The Tivoli Performance viewer (TPV) incorrectly advises that
    the JIT is disabled.
    Steps to Recreate the Problem -
    - Start the servers.
    - Navigate to:
       Monitoring and Turning->Performance Viewer->Current
    Activity->server1->Advisor
    - No TUNE5006W is present.
    - click 'view modules' and 'start logging'.
    - After waiting a few seconds,click 'stop logging'.
    - Now navigate to
       Monitoring and Turning->Performance Viewer->View logs
    - Select the log generated previously and click view.
    - click advisor and you can see the TUNE5006W message which is
    incorrect. The JIT is enabled on JVM whereas advisor shows the
    JIT is disabled.
    - The problem also can be seen in the resulting TPV log file
    which contains:
    <configParam key="disableJIT" cls="java.lang.Boolean"
    val="true"/>

    The Problem is while creating the log file the Application
    Server code was retrieving the JIT disabled property with a
    negation value.
