Error description
The new Deployer role in Webshere Application Server V6.1 does not have the necessary authority for doing a HTTP plug-in generation or propagation. ---- Keywords: deployer plugin plug-in generation
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of WebSphere Application Server * * using the webserver plugin configuration * * panels * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The deployer role in V6.1 does not * * allow generation or propagation of * * the plugin-cfg.xml file * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: If the deployer role is desired for the * * generation and propagation of the * * plugin-cfg.xml file, install this APAR. * **************************************************************** The deployer role is not allowed to generate or propagate the plugin-cfg.xml file
Problem conclusion
The deployer role has been extended to conditionally allow the generation and propagation of the plugin-cfg.xml file if the allowDeployerGeneratePluginCfg custom property is set to true. If the custom property is not set, the behavior remains the same as currently. Users of WebServer plug-in for WebSphere Appliction Server 6.0.2, 6.1, and 7.0 who want to allow users with the deployer role to generate and configure the plugin-cfg.xml file will need to install this APAR. This APAR adds code that determines if a user with the deployer role is attempting to generate or configure the configuration file. It checks for the allowDeployerRoleGenPluginCfg custom property being set to true, and if so, allows the operations to proceed. If the custom property is either missing or set to false, then the operation is aborted and an error message is issued. Follow these steps to set the custom property allowDeployerRoleGenPluginCfg from the administrative console : WebSphere Application Server Base edition : [1] Click on Application servers, [2] Click on the desired server in the list. Ensure that the Configuration tab is visible. [3] Under Server Infrastructure, expand the Java and Process Management icon. [4] Select Process Definition and then under Additional Properties, click on Java Virtual Machine. [5] Click on the Custom properties link and click the New button. For Name enter allowDeployerRoleGenPluginCfg, and for value enter true to enable the function. [6] Click OK and then Save. [7] Restart the application server to pick up the change. WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment edition : [1] Click on System Administration [2] Click on Deployment Manager [3] Under Server Infrastructure, expand the Java and Process Management icon. To disable this function, either delete the custom property or set its value to false; the default operation is to assume that the value is false. To set the custom property from the command line using the wsadmin tool, use the following script: #--------------------------------------------------------------- # setAllowDeployer.jacl - Jacl script for setting a the allowDeployerRoleGenPluginCfg property of the webserver plug-in for WebSphere Application Server #--------------------------------------------------------------- # This Jacl file modifies the server.xml file for an application server. This script is designed to be invoked while the AppServer is running. # # Here is an example of how to invoke the script: # wsadmin -f setAllowDeployer.jacl <nodeName> <serverName> <enableValue> #--------------------------------------------------------------- proc printUsageAndExit {} { puts " " puts "Usage: wsadmin -f setAllowDeployer.jacl <nodeName> <serverName> <boolEnable>" puts "Note: enableValue argument is of type boolean; valid values are true and false." exit } if { [llength $argv] >= 3 } { set nodename [lindex $argv 0] set servername [lindex $argv 1] set enablevalue [lindex $argv 2] } else { printUsageAndExit } set cellname [$AdminControl getCell] set propname "allowDeployerRoleGenPluginCfg" set propdesc "Allow conditional deployer role for plug-in generation and propagation" set required "false" set jvm [$AdminConfig getid /Cell:${cellname}/Node:${nodename}/Server:${servername}/JavaProc essDef:/JavaVirtualMachine:/] $AdminConfig modify $jvm [subst {{systemProperties {{{name {$propname}} {value {$enablevalue}} {description {$propdesc}} {required {$required}}}}}}] $AdminConfig save exit 0 An example usage would be: wsadmin -f setAllowDeployer.jacl kuriosNode01 server1 true where kuriosNode01 is the node on which the application server is defined, server1 is the name of the server, and true is the value the custom property is set to for enabling the deployer role generation and propagation of the plug-in configuration file. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 6.1.0.25 currently scheduled for 06/15/2009 and 7.0.0.5 currently scheduled for 08/04/2009.
