Error description

  • CursorName property is not initialized or reset by WebSphere
Application Server 6.0 when the Connection is released back into
the Connection Pool. When a Connection object is obtained, the
cursor with the previous cursorname is obtained.

The following entries were observed during the cleanup operation
    in the traces:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    [7/10/08 15:24:06:644 JST] 00000026 WSJdbcPrepare 3 Cleaning
    up Statement
    [7/10/08 15:24:06:644 JST] 00000026 logwriter 3
    [ibm][db2][jcc][Time:1215671046644][Thread:WebContainer :
    0][PreparedStatement@63e2307] setFetchDirection (1000) called
    [7/10/08 15:24:06:644 JST] 00000026 logwriter 3
    [ibm][db2][jcc][Time:1215671046644][Thread:WebContainer :
    0][PreparedStatement@63e2307] getMaxFieldSize () called
    [7/10/08 15:24:06:644 JST] 00000026 logwriter 3
    [ibm][db2][jcc][Time:1215671046644][Thread:WebContainer :
    0][PreparedStatement@63e2307] getMaxRows () returned 0
    [7/10/08 15:24:06:645 JST] 00000026 logwriter 3
    [ibm][db2][jcc][Time:1215671046644][Thread:WebContainer :
    0][PreparedStatement@63e2307] setQueryTimeout (0) called
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

It can be seen that Application Server resets the following
properties, but it does not reset the cursorName property :

    setFetchDirection, getMaxFieldSize, setQueryTimeout

An exception stack may not be generated, just an incorrect
    output.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of WebSphere Application Server *
    * who use the DB2 Universal Driver *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Statement cursor name is not *
    * reset before caching the statement *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The statement cursor name should always be set to null before
placing a statement in the prepared statement cache. The code
was leaving the old cursor name in place and not setting this
property to null when the statement was cleaned up before
    caching.

Problem conclusion

  • The code was fixed so the statement cursor name was set to
    null before caching

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 6.0.2.35, 6.1.0.23, 7.1.0.5 Please refer to the
