Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: DB2 data sharing users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Hang waiting for castout, with agent *
    *                      suspended in DSNB1CPL or DSNB1PCO.      *
    * If hang occurs during DB2 restart, it *
    * may prevent DB2 from coming up. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The hang is the result of a timing window between castout
    processing and a rebuild of the GBP (duplexing or otherwise).
    If the castout engine detects that a rebuild is in progress,
    it will re-queue it's work request(s) and suspend. At the end
    of the rebuild, a process is in place to reschedule castout for
    any pagesets or partitions with work queued up. However, if
    the castout engine is still running and in the process of re-
    queueing its work, it will not be rescheduled. Any agents
    waiting for the castout to complete will remain suspended until
    some event occurs to cause castout to be scheduled again.

Problem conclusion

  • The GBP rebuild process which handles rescheduling castout has
    been modified to detect any pagesets or partitions for which
    castout is already running, and to wait for that to complete
    before performing the reschedule.
