APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • rotatelogs ignores -l option when rotating files based on size,
    so generated filenames have UTC time instead of local time.
    The -l option is respected when rotating files based on time
    intervals to indicate that generated filenames use local time.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: IBM HTTP Server configurations with *
    * rotatelogs                                                   *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: localtime (-l) and UTC offset parameters*
    * were ignored when rotating log files based on size *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: This fix is recommended for configurations *
    * with rotatelogs configured to rotate log files based on file *
    * size.                                                        *
    ****************************************************************
    The rotatelogs command accepted but ignored -l and UTC offset
    parameters when rotating log files based on file size. Thus,
    timestamps in generated log file names always used UTC time
    instead of local time.
    In addition, both -l and UTC offset parameters could be
    specified on the rotatelogs command-line, even though the
    parameters are conflicting.

Problem conclusion

  • rotatelogs was modified to respect the -l and UTC offset
    parameters when rotating log files based on size.
    rotatelogs issues an error if both -l and UTC offset parameters
    are specified on the command-line.
    .
    This fix is targeted for fix packs
      6.1.0.15
      6.0.2.27
    and cumulative fix PK65782 for IBM HTTP Server 2.0.47
