PK45376: DSNTIJNE JOB ABENDS WITH A SORT CAPACITY ERROR WHEN REORGING SPT01 DURING ENFM 07/06/01 PTF PECHANGE

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• DFSORT ABENDU010 or MSGICE046A SORT CAPACITY EXCEEDED might
  occur on job DSNTIJNE step ENFM0187 when reorganizing/converting
  directory tablespace SPT01 .
  FILSZ of 0 passed by DB2 to DFSORT may cause this error.
  Sort doesn't necessarily abend because of this but it could.
  Additional Symptoms:
  DSNURFIT +05BA ABEND0C4 PIC38  when object in LISTDEF
  of REORG statement is not found.

• add
  //DFSPARM DD *
        OPTION FILSZ=Ennnnnnn
  where xxxxx is a good estimate
  of number of rows to sort.
  

Problem summary

  *                      applied, MSGICE046A SORT CAPACITY       *
  *                      EXCEEDED occurrs when REORGing SPT01.   *

  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply corrective PTF when available          *
  ****************************************************************
  APAR PK37666 used the 'old' (compatability mode) page size
  when attempting to calculate the FILSZ (estimated number of
  rows) for the REORG of particular catalog tablespaces.  There
  exists a path wherein the 'new' (enfm) maximum row length was
  used with the 'old' (cm) page size in the rows per page
  calculation.  Since the 'new' maximum row length was greater
  than the 'old' page size, a value of zero (0) was calculated as
  the rows per page and, when multiplied by the number of pages,
  an estimate of zero (0) was calculated for FILSZ.  When this
  value was passed to SORT, a sort capacity error occurred and
  MSGICE046A SORT CAPACITY EXCEEDED was issued.
  

Problem conclusion

• REORG has been modified to use the 'old' maximum record length
  when calculating FILSIZ during enfm processing.
