    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
In Unix environments, the "ps -ef" command will list the
currently running processes; while listing the processes it
will also display the arguments that are passed to a process.
In WebSphere Application Server processes, names of the Cell,
Node and Server will be passed as the last three arguments.
Using that you can identify the process ID associated with a
    Server.

Some Unix environments have certain limitations on the "ps-ef"
command output, so it will truncate the arguments of a
process which are beyond the limit. Depending on the number
of arguments, for some Server processes the "ps -ef" command
could truncate the Server name argument. This will impact
your ability to identify the process ID associated with a
    Server.

Problem conclusion

  • The fix provides an option to display the name of the Cell,
Node and Server in the front of "ps -ef" command output.

    If the custom property,

       "com.ibm.websphere.management.launcher.options=
        displayServerInFront"

is set at the Cell scope, then while launching the process the
    System property

       "-Dwas.launcher.server=<cell.name>:<node.name>:<server.name>"

will be added as the first argument to the Server process.

This will help you in identifying the process ID associated
    with a Server.

Note: The new System property "-Dwas.launcher.server" will not
have any functional impact on the Server process.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fixpacks 6.0.2.23 and 6.1.0.13.
