Error description
The following information needs to be added to the Information Centers for WebSphere Application Server Version 5.1.x, 6.0.x, and 6.1: On a non-Microsoft Windows Operating System, such as AIX, Linux, and so on, when you use the JACL scripting language and the "wsadmin -c" command-line option, you must specify a backslash (\) character before the dollar sign ($) character of the wsadmin command. For example, this issue applies to the $AdminApp, $AdminConfig, $AdminTask, and $AdminControl commands. This problem occurs because the dollar sign ($) is treated as a special character by the shell prompt. For example: The following command fails with an invalid command name "types"error: wsadmin.sh -c "$AdminConfig types" However, the following command is successful: wsadmin.sh -c "\$AdminConfig types" Note: The problem only occurs when you use the "wsadmin -c" command-line option. If you run the command from the wsadmin prompt, the backslash (\) character is not necessary. For example: wsadmin> $AdminConfig types The Information Center needs to be updated everywhere the "wsadmin.sh -c" command is shown with the JACL scripting language on a non-Microsoft Windows operating system.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: This APAR affects users who are using * * WebSphere Application Server Versions * * 5.1.x, 6.0.x, and 6.1 to invoke the * * wsadmin -c command line option. This * * issue applies to all of the supported * * operating systems for WebSphere * * Application Server except Microsoft * * Windows operating system. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: You might receive an error message * * when you invoke the wsadmin -c * * command line option. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** If you use the wsadmin -c option to invoke a command that includes a dollar sign character ($), the command line attempts to substitute a variable and does not recognize the command. To avoid this problem, escape the dollar sign character with a backslash character (\), as the following example shows: wsadmin -c "\$AdminConfig save"
Problem conclusion
Additional information about the wsadmin -c command line syntax has been added to the following topics in the Version 5.1.x, 6.0.x, 6.1 information centers for WebSphere Application Server: - "Starting the wsadmin scripting client" - "Saving configuration changes with the wsadmin tool" The information also has been added to the "wsadmin tool performance tips" topic for Version 5.1.x. Date that information will be available externally to customers: The modified documentation will be available in the next update to the Information Centers, which is scheduled to occur on or before June 30, 2007.
