Error description

  • J2CA0294W message is a warning on using a deprecated lookup.
    This message is filling up the logs and causing unneeded
    communications in large cells. This message should only be
    logged in SystemOut.log when in debug mode.
    .
       The most common cause of this message is doing a jndi
    lookup of a resource directly, as in jdbc/myDB versus
    an indirect lookup of java:comp/env/dataSourceAlias with a
    resource reference mapping the dataSourceAlias to the
    jdbc/myDB jndi name.

Local fix

  • do not use the deprecated lookup

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Warning message is flooding the logs, *
    *                      causing performance problems.           *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    J2CA029Wmessage is a warning on using a deprecated lookup.
    This message is filling up the logs and causing unneeded
    communications in large cells. This message should only be
    seen within debug mode.

    It was decided that the logging of this message was not needed,
    caused a performance problem and is also incorrect. We do not
    intend to deprecate this code because it is in use by other
    Application Server components. So the message was changed to
    a debug only message.

Problem conclusion

  • Message changed and will only occur when J2C trace is enabled
    and the code is not using the jms component.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion
    in fixpacks 6.0.2.19 and 6.1.0.5.
