Error description
After customer installs PK19397/UK12989, the following message is issued by IMS Connect: HWSS0785W OPEN TCPIP COMMUNICATION ON HOSTNAME=xxxxxxxx FAILED; R=-xxxxxxxxxx, S=0, M=SOC1 and users (or clients) can not connect to IMS Connect. * ADDITIONAL SYMPTOM: CMD VIEWHWS displays 000.000.000.000 for HOST IP address. * This problem was introduced by PK19397/UK12989. PK19397 added code in HWSSDOPN to make sure that we are successfully connected to the right TCPIP stack. Unfortunately, the check that we do is incorrect. In HWSSDOPN, we issue a BPX1HST0 call to GetHostID & then before we return we check USS_RETVALUE. The USS_RETVALUE contains the IP address. For this particular customer it was C0EA6464. So here's the instructions in HWSSDOPN: ICM R15,15,USS_RETVALUE BNP EXIT2 Now because USS_RETVALUE = C0EA6464, the ICM instruction will set the condition code to minus because the left most bit in C0EA6464 is a 1. We will then branch to label EXIT2 where we store the following retun & reason codes: ST R15,DVPXO_RETCODE ST R2,DVPXO_RESCODE Then we return back to module HWSSOC10. Where we check to see if DVPXO_RETCODE is non-zero & if so we issue the HWSS0785W message. After that we return back to module HWSSOCC0 and because HWSSOC10 returned with a non-zero return code, HWSSOCC0 does NOT call HWSSOC20. And so we don't end up opening the ports (because thats what HWSSOC20 would have done had it been called) And thats why no clients can connect to IMS Connect.

Problem conclusion
AIDS: RIDS/SYS RIDS/CNTRL SYS CNTRL DEP: NONE GEN: *** END IMS KEYWORDS *** HWSSDOPN has been modified to take the error path only if RETVALUE is equal to a -1. HWSXSH30 has been modified to enhance trace entry.
