APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When source contains either CICS or DB2 statements, the
z/OS Debug Tool would not start and a STO abend occurs
    (U4088/0C7).

The debugger development team was able to identify the problem
with the NUMBER compiler option causing more .debug_srcattr
entries than the number of expanded source lines as well as
incorrect mapping between the line number and alt_lineno.

Local fix

  • Compile with NONUMBER

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL for z/OS V6.2 who *
    * compile programs with TEST and NUMBER and *
    * either CICS or SQL compiler options *
    * programs that contain either CICS or DB2 *
    * statements and then try to debug these *
    * programs using IBM z/OS Debug Tool. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The z/OS Debug Tool would not start *
    *                      and a STO abend occurs (U4088/0C7).     *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
The compiler was putting incorrect line numbers in the
debugging information due to counting statements generated for
CICS or SQL as regular COBOL statements.

Problem conclusion

  • The compiler was changed to only count COBOL statements that
show in the debug view for purposes of numbering the lines in
    debug information.
