PI95293: RDZ COPY LOCAL TO REMOTE DOES NOT WARN THE USER FOR DATA LOSS BEYOND LRECL

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Rational Developer for z systems 9.5.1 copy local to remote does
  not warn the user for data loss beyond the logical record lenght
  (LRECL)
  Records are truncated to LRECL when copying files with a larger
  record length than LRECL
  
  
  This can happen both with sequential datasets and PDS members.
  
  When doing direct editing and saving via RSE MVS, RDz prompts
  the user before uploading to tell them about the truncation.  In
  this copy/paste scenario this does not happen.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• When a user copies a local file that has lines that exceed LRECL
  on the destination PDS, the lines are truncated without
  warning.
  

Problem conclusion

• There is no check for lines that exceed LRECL when doing a
  cross-system copy to a PDS.   The solution is to add a check and
  prompt the user if they want to continue.
