    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: "Test: argument expected", "you are *
    * not running on a J9 Java VM", or *
    *                      "Unrecognized option -Xquickstart"      *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    There are several possible, related issues with the migration
    scripts in the remote migration jar. On Solaris, /bin/sh does
    not accept the "-e" argument to the "test" command, resulting
    in "argument expected."
    If the remote migration jar does not include Java, and
    JAVA_HOME points to an Oracle Java image, it is possible to
    either see the non-fatal "You are not running a J9 Java VM"
    and/or a fatal "Unrecognized option: -Xj9" or "Unrecognized
    option: -Xquickstart" depending on platform. This is because
    the jar was initially built to include an IBM Java to run off
    of, but was extended to be platform agnostic which required
    not packaging Java and allowing the system to provide it.
    Issues include the com.ibm.cds jar in plugins, and the
    J9-specific performance options -Xj9 and -Xquickstart being
    added to the java command by WASPreUpgrade.sh.

Problem conclusion

  • The remote migration script was adjusted to use ksh on
    Solaris, to exclude the jar com.ibm.cds from the remote
    migration jar, and to only apply the -Xj9 and/or -Xquickstart
    options when an IBM Java VM has been packaged in the jar.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 9.0.0.8 and 8.5.5.14. Please refer to the Recommended
