Error description
ALTER TABLE ADD COLUMN(s) that adds multiple columns to the same table within the same transaction while multiple source subscriptions are mirroring that table will introduce a latent issue where the NEXT alter table can cause problems mirroring historical log records (from before the most recent ALTER).
Local fix
Should the issue occur, then a refresh followed by a re-org of the table will bring the table current and avoid the processing of the historical log records. To avoid the issue entirely, a couple of workarounds are to issue the ALTER TABLE ADD COLUMNs as one column per commit, or multiple columns can be addedwith a single subscription actively mirroring at the time.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of InfoSphere Data Replication Change * * Data Capture for z/OS * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If more than one subscription is * * mirroring the same table to which ALTER * * TABLE ADD COLUMN is done and the * * alteration adds more than one column in * * a single transaction, then a subsequent * * ALTER TABLE that results in a table * * version change could cause mirroring to * * fail with the events CHC0050E ("Data * * with an invalid length was received") * * and CHC0330E ("An internal error was * * detected"). * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY CORRECTIVE SERVICE * **************************************************************** CDC saves the current table version in its version history metadata as a new version is encountered. A timing condition exists with multiple columns where a partially processed new table version is saved to the version history with only the first column being accounted for. A check should be added to prevent the new version from being added to the version history as it is being processed.
Problem conclusion
Module CHCTVHDL was updated to correct the issue.
