APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • A PIF server that was running normally for a long time
    suddenly terminates with error
    EQQZ045E SUBTASK SERVER ENDED UNEXPECTEDLY
    Message EQQPH20E was also seen in the server EQQMLOG.
    USS / OMVS message:
    BPXF270I THE MAXPIPEUSER LIMIT OF 8730 HAS BEEN REACHED ...
    was seen just prior to the EQQZ045E message.
    

Local fix

  • Cycle the server task more frequently in order to avoid the
    abend.  The number of pipes in use can be monitored by issusing
    OMVS command:  ZLSOF PIPE
    Cycle the server before the maximum limit is reached.

    The PIF Server suddenly terminates with error
    EQQZ045E. Also the message EQQPH20E is issued.
    The message:
    BPXF270I THE MAXPIPEUSER LIMIT OF 8730 HAS BEEN REACHED
    is also issued.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Pipes are opened but not correctly closed by
    the IWS and TWS for z/OS Server code.
