Error description
When entering a FIND or CHANGE command using the File Manager Find/Change utility, and a single column is specified in the command, the search is not limited to the character string starting in the specified column. For example, if the following command is entered for the Find/Change utility and input dataset has a lrecl of 80: F 'test' 7 All occurrences of 'test' will be found starting in column 7 or later, as if column was specified as 7 80, and not just starting in column 7. This occurs when using the File Manager Find/Change utility under ISPF (FM option 3.6) or the batch utility.
Local fix
Specify a column range
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All File Manger Find/Change FCH Users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 1. When a single column has been * * specified the Find/Change function * * (Option 3.6 or the FCH utility) is * * registering matches for any string * * that matches in the range of the * * column specified to the end of the * * record. * * This is incorrect it should only * * match strings starting at the specified * * column location. * * * * 2. When processing a change * * command like * * c 'ABC' '' * * C 'D' 'E' * * and the record contains * * ABCD * * * * * * * * * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. * **************************************************************** 1. File Manager is not limiting the scan to strings starting on the from column when only the from column is specified. 2. File Manager is skipping a byte when a string is changed to a null string when scanning for matching arguments.
Problem conclusion
File Manager has been modified to correct the problems. This will involve a behaviour change so that if a single column is specified then only character strings starting at that column will be considered a match.
