    ****************************************************************
A DB2 for z/OS application opens a cursor on a table where the
query is serviced by a remote (IDAA) accelerator. The IDAA
server environment returns the data in multiple blocks (DRDA
QRYDTAs) but the application appears to close the cursor before
all the data is received. The physical connection with the
IDAA server is terminated but DB2 control blocks representing
the connection are maintained for the benefit of subsequent SQL
by the application that requires the same IDAA server.
The application opens another (or perhaps re-opens the same)
cursor on a table where the query is serviced by the same
remote (IDAA) accelerator. The DB2 connection control block
structure is re-used to accommodate the new physical connection
to the IDAA server but DB2 (incorrectly) fails to completely
refresh the structure. The residual effects of the control
block structure lead to the reported abend.
The abend condition appears to be very intermittent and only
impacts the DB2 application (there is no other long term harm
to the DB2 subsystem). The application will likely succeed
if it is repeated. The intermittent nature of the abend
appears to be, at least in part, dependent on if the IDAA
server had returned multiple blocks (DRDA QRYDTAs) of data and
if the application did not fetch all rows of the answer set.

Problem conclusion

  • DB2 has been changed to ensure that the DB2 connection control
block structure is refreshed if it is re-used.
