APAR status

Error description

  • Customer is using File Manager                        to edit a
    dataset and issues the "COPY" command on the command line. They
    are presented with panel FMNPECPY, they put in the dataset name
    and the volume name and they receive message  "Data set not
    found"

Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All File Manager users.                      *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 1. Various problems when attempting to  *
    *                         reference an uncataloged data set:   *
    *                         o Using the COPY command msgFMNBE127 *
    *                           'Data set not found' is issued.    *
    *                         o Using APPEND, CREATE, REPLACE or   *
    *                           SAVEAS a new cataloged data set    *
    *                           is created and the data written to *
    *                           it.                                *
    *                      2. When using the CREATE, REPLACE or    *
    *                         SAVEAS commands on a PDS data set    *
    *                         and writing to a cataloged           *
    *                         sequential data set File Manager     *
    *                         deletes the sequential data set      *
    *                         and creates a new PDS data set into  *
    *                         which the data is copied.            *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF.                      *
    ****************************************************************
    1. File Manager is not using the volume field to find the
       uncataloged data set.
    2. File Manager is incorrectly deleting the 'To data set' and
       using the 'Allocation options' to create a new data set.
    

Problem conclusion

  • File Manager was modified to resolve these problems.
