PI46048: RECEIVE UNEXPECTED RESULTS WHEN ENTERING SELECTION CRITERIA IN HEX FOR A PACKED DECIMAL FIELD IN FILE MANAGER.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When viewing a file with a template, and the template is
  edited to specify selection criteria in hex for a packed decimal
  field, records containing the specified value are not found.
  For example, if the following is entered on the File
  Manager Field Selection/Edit panel for a packed decimal field -
  
     #2 = 'D3'x
  
  Records containing x'D3' in field #2 are not displayed.
  
  
  Also, if an unformatted contains expression is entered, for
  example: tfld(#U2,'CO','D3'x)
  
  Records containing x'D3' in field #2 are not displayed.
  

Local fix

• A temporary work around is to enter the File Manager command
  USEREXX, then enter unformatted contains expression as a free
  format expression on the Field Selection/Edit panel. For
  example:  tfld(#U2,'CO','D3'x)

  1. File Manager was not allowing the specification of
     unformatted    character or hexadecimal values for packed
     decimal fields when creating a dynamic template.
  2. When running FASTREXX to process selection criteria for a
     packed decimal field File Manager was incorrectly checking
     that the packed decimal field was valid for an unformatted
     field reference (#U).
  3. FMNSRCHK isn't handling quoted values for variable
     substitution,  long member names before
     substitution and remote member names correctly.
  

Problem conclusion

• File Manager was modified to correct these issues.
