Error description

  • Using File Manager to edit a large variable
    length RRDS (VRRDS), receive messages:

      ERROR CREATING AUX FILE

IDC3506I A REQUIRED VOLUME LIST HAS BEEN OMITTED

    Additional Information:
When the File Manager AUX (auxiliary) dataset is created, a
RRDS dataset is used as a model. A VRRDS
is a KSDS processed as a RRDS, a prime index component is
required. Since the model RRDS dataset
does not include an INDEX component, a volume placement is not
defined for the Index component and
message IDC3506I is received. This issue will only occur in a
    Non-SMS environment.

    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    1. A define of a VRRDS cannot use an RRDS model because the
there is no INDEX component in an RRDS to Model the Volume
    list required.
    2. An edit of a fixed length dataset using a VRRDS MODEL will
incorrectly calculates the LRECL of the input dataset resulting
    in unpredictable behaviour.

Problem conclusion

  • File Manager has been updated to:
    - Force the use of an RRDS MODEL when editing a fixed length
    data set
    - Force the use of a VRRDS MODEL when editing a variable length
    data set.
You can provide both RRDS and VRRDS models by specifying a model
data set name that does not exist and represents a prefix for
the data set name that will be used.
The model data set that File Manager will use will be the name
you provided suffixed with '.RRDS' for fixed and '.VRRDS' for
    variable length records.
