Error description

  • An ABEND0C4 ABENDS0C4 PIC 11 in IEAVEPST. The POST SVC was
issued by CSQMEOTC. It was running during termination of an
async consume thread and was trying to post the termination
ECB (bloa.AC_ConsumerEndECB) in the control thread's BLOA.
However, the control thread is ending at the same time, and
has already released the BLOA, leading to the 0C4.

    ****************************************************************
A WebSphere Application Server is connected to the queue manager
in bindings mode, and has established one or more asynchronous
consumers with the queue manager to deliver messages to MDBs.
When the MDBs terminate during Application Server termination, a
timing window exists where the asynchronous consumer thread can
end prior to the MDB thread, but goes through CSQMEOTC (end of
task processing) after the MDB thread. In this situation, when
CSQMEOTC attempts to post an ECB in the main task's BLOA it
abends due to the BLOA having already been freed.

Problem conclusion

  • CSQMEOTC and CSQBDSC are changed to correct the code responsible
for serialising end of task processing for the main and consumer
threads, ensuring the main task does not free its BLOA prior to
the consumer task posting the ECB in that BLOA.
