PI38032: ABEND04E RC00E2000F DSNSVSFB DUE TO OVERLAY

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• An abend occurred with the following title.
  DSN ,ABND=04E-00E2000F,U=uuuuuuu ,M=N
   ,C=101.LOCN=::FFFF:xx.xx.xx.   ,LOC=DSNXEFB .DSNSVSFB+08EA
  Subsequently DB2 came down due to must complete, rc00E50702.
  The rc00E2000F indicates the block to be freed was already free.
  This was due to the block trailer 'TRLA' overlaid by data, zeros
  in this case.
  The zeroes were due to data from an invalid row overlaying the
  end of the block.

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

  A query that attempts to retrieve data from a varying length
  column in a bad record with an incorrect record length can lead
  to a storage overlay and cause DB2 to crash when extracting
  data from the stored record.
  

Problem conclusion

• In order to prevent a storage overlay, DB2 code is fixed to
  issue following ABENDs when retrieving a record and detecting
  an invalid record length.
