Error description
When using File Manager option 3.4 DEF command to allocate a Non-VSAM dataset - Catalog Entry Type 10. Non-VSAM (allocate/define), and Batch execution is selected, the following issues are encountered: 1. When Space unit of BLK is specified and Block size is blank, user does not receive message 'Enter required field' and incorrect JCL is generated (at PTF level UI20501). 2. Space unit of KB and MB should not be valid for batch execution. 3. Generated batch JCL does not include parameter RECFM. 4. Valid Block size range is not indicated. 5. Valid Space unit values listed on panel conflict with documentation.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All File Manager Users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When DEF command is issued in Catalog * * Services and batch execution selected * * the following problems may occur when * * defining a Non VSAM dataset: * * 1. If Space unit BLKS is specified, * * a value of zero for Block size * * is not allowed. * * 2. Batch JCL generated by File Manager * * has incorrect syntax for the DD * * statement SPACE= parameter. * * 3. If Space unit KB or MB is specified, * * invalid JCL is produced * * 4. // RECFM= JCL is not being generated * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. * ****************************************************************
Problem conclusion
File Manager has been modified as follows if batch execution is selected: 1. If BLKS is specified as Space units, then a value of zero or blanks (omitted) is disallowed . MSGFMNBC521 (Value invalid for batch) is produced. 2. File Manager will now use correct syntax in Batch JCL generated: // SPACE=(blksize,(xx,yy)) instead of // SPACE=(BLK,(xx,yy)) 3. A value of KB or MB for Space units is disallowed. MSGFMNBC521 (Value invalid for batch) is produced. 4. // RECFM= JCL statement will now be generated.
