APAR status

Error description

  • ABEND5C6-00C93C00 is received during restart/recovery when a
when a page set is expanded and is then taken offline.

At startup the queue-manager should detect that the page set
needs expanding before attempting forward recovery, but this
isn't happening.

*                      allocated and the queue manager is      *
*                      restarted 5C6-00C93C00 abends are       *
*                      generated in CSQIEXP2 or/and CSQISCP5   *
*                      or/and other. The queue manager can     *
*                      terminate.                              *

* RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

During queue manager restart after an old page set (backup) has
been allocated, CSQIREXT should expand the page set to allocate
the space required to restore all pages during forward log
recovery.

In this case, the page set expansion did not happen because the
queue manager was previously restarted with the page set offline
or suspended causing the loss of the high page number in the
page set. Therefore CSQIREXT assumes that page set expansion is
not required, causing media recovery of the page set to be
performed incorrectly, resulting in various abends during
subsequent processing.

Problem conclusion

  • The page set high page number is always saved in checkpoint
records in the log even if the page set is offline or suspended.
