Error description

  • The issue is a DB2 table that a user wants to copy rows from the
table on one system and put them on another system (same table
name - different DB2s). The problem is the that one of the
columns is managed by DB2 to put a sequential number in the
column when a row is added. This creates a problem when they do
the insert because DB2 says that it manages the column and will
not allow the inserting of the row from the other DB2, with an
SQLCODE -798 "A VALUE CANNOT BE SPECIFIED FOR COLUMN
column-name WHICH IS DEFINED AS GENERATED ALWAYS." This error
only occurs on a view created against the table.

Local fix

  • A user can avoid the problem by processing the table, not the
    view.

The column defined as GENERATED ALWAYS is being erroneously
included in INSERT or UPDATE statements generated by FM/DB2.

Problem conclusion

  • File Manager DB2 component has been updated to correct the
    problem.
