Error description

  • Attempts to Reverse Engineer an Oracle table with indexes from a
    Data Description Language (DDL) file in IBM Rational System
    Architect (SA) result in the index column fields for both table
    and index not populated.

    CONFIGURATION

    Environment = Microsoft Windows (R)
    Tool = Rational System Architect (R)
    Version = 11.4.2

    Also reproducible in version 11.4.2.7 of SA.

    SYMPTOM

    Indexes are not generated.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Create an Oracle target database Physical Data Model (PDM)
    Table with
       Primary Key and indexes

    2. Generate for the PDM a DDL file
       Tools ? DB Schema Generation

    3. Choose to generate the primary key (PK)

    4. Choose to generate an index:
       Check 'Generate  Unique index'
       Toggle 'Indexes'

    5. Reverse engineer the DDL file to a new diagram
       Tools ? DB Reverse Engineering

    Expected results:

    The Index Columns section of the index chapter of the Table
    definition to have data for both:

    - Columns in table

    and

    - Columns in index

    Actual Results:

    The Indexes table AND Columns in index are not populated.

    WORKAROUND / SOLUTION
    At step number 4 above:
    On Schema Generation when selecting the Database Generation, in
    the choices for Index Constraints, under Generate indexes, check
    Generate unique indexes and toggle 'As indicated in table'.
