APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • User selects "Use I/O exit" on FM Edit Entry Panel. The input
file is a compressed data set, and they use their own I/O exit
to decompress the file. FM does not display decompressed data.
Compressed data is displayed in the FM Editor. To correct this
issue, File Manager needs to be modified so that the IO-EXIT is
only called when File Manager actually starts reading the data.

    * USERS AFFECTED: All File Manager Users. *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 1. File Manager is incorrectly calling *

    * calls to set up the file to be *

    *                         IO exit.                             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    1. An IO exit with restrictive conditions on the:
o open/close processing for QSAM files
o read processing for QSAM/VSAM files
may cause the IO exit to stop working due to internal File
       Manager processing.
    2. File Manager is incorrectly estimating that the expanded
compressed records will fit into memory when browsing or
       viewing a compressed file.

Problem conclusion

  • File Manager was modified to:
    1. Call the IO exit when required.
    2. Perfom an inplace edit when browsing or viewing data using
       an IO exit.
