APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • As a part of the migration process, a script
install_all_apps.jy is generated for the customer to run to
update their applications to the new WebSphere deployment.
This script passes various parameter to underlying wsadmin
calls, but these parameters do not take into account certain
character sequences in the edition name. As a result, the
    script execution can fail.

Local fix

  • Manually edit the generated install_all_apps.jy script to add
in quotes around the edition values to properly escape sequence
them when calling wsadmin from inside the jython script.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The WebSphere Virtual Enterprise product is installed.
The product is being migrated to the next release, which
    includes running VEUpgrade.
VEUpgrade calls the application install scripts which used
wsadmin to deploy the application. The -edition parameter is
followed by the edition name. If the edition name is not
quoted and contains a '-' character, wsadmin does not parse
    the command correctly and fails.

Problem conclusion

  • The WASPostUpgrade tool which generates the application
install scripts has been updated to add quotes around the
    edition name.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 8.5.5.2, 8.0.0.9, and 7.0.0.31. Please refer to the
