Error description

  • CDC or Qrep read DB2 log through IFI 306, it may need to access
    to quiesced member's log and BSDS even there is no need to do
    so.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All data sharing users of DB2 that run *
    * applications that read the DB2 logs with *
    * the IFI READS facility for IFCID 306. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Increased CPU usage can be seen for *
    * the DB2 MSTR address space when *
    * another member of the data sharing *
    * group is shut down while running an *
    * application that is reading the DB2 *
    * logs with the IFI READS facility *
    *                      for IFCID 306.  Repeated                *
    * disposition messages for the peer *
    * member BSDS and active log can be *
    * seen in the DB2 MSTR job log after *
    * the peer member is stopped. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When the IFI application is using the prior QW0306ES LRSN
    value on the subsequent F-call, DB2 does not correctly detect
    that the logs are no longer needed for a quiesced member of
    the data sharing group even though the LRSN value specified
    on the F-call is higher than the quiesce LRSN for the
    quiesced member. This results in DB2 allocating, opening,
    reading, closing, and deallocating the quiesced member's
    BSDS and active log on each subsequent F-call which will
    increase the CPU usage for the DB2 MSTR address space.

Problem conclusion

  • DB2 will now bypass accessing the quiesced member's BSDS and
    active log when the LRSN range is higher than the quiesce LRSN
    for the quiesced member, and the IFI application is using
    the QW0306ES LRSN value on subsequent F-calls.
