Error description

• When COPY utility processes the list of objects in parallel for
  image copies being written into tape devices, the customer
  found if the objects are small or near to empty, they are
  always copied to a small number of tape volumes, not spread
  among the available volumes. This may impact the parallel
  degree when RECOVER utility tries to restore these image copy
  datasets.

  *                      multiple tape stacks by the COPY        *
  *                      utility.                                *

    A customer noticed a degradation in RECOVER utility
  RESTORE phase performance when the input image copies on
  multiple tape stacks created by the COPY utility were not
  spread evenly across the tape stacks.
    The image copies for small objects were mostly contained in
  the first tape stack when COPY with the PARALLEL option was
  used.  This caused inefficiencies during RECOVER RESTORE
  phase processing.
  

Problem conclusion

• The COPY utility logic has been modified so that image copy
  data sets stacked on tape are spread more evenly across the
  tape stacks when the PARALLEL option is specified.
