    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The following problems occur when the   *
    *                      database that the user is editing has   *
    *                      no data or none of its data is          *
    *                      available.                              *
    *                                                              *
    *                      1. AbendS0C4 after issuing the CANCEL   *
    *                      command (F12) on the Insert Root        *
    *                      Segment panel.                          *
    *                      Abend details:                          *
    *                      System abend 0C4 reason code X'4' in    *
    *                      module FMNMOD1 CSECT FMN1ETOS at offset *
    *                      X'67E'.                                 *
    *                      FM-1408                                 *
    *                                                              *
    *                      2. AbendS0C4 after editing data on the  *
    *                      Insert Root Segment panel when the      *
    *                      Insert Format is SNGL.                  *
    *                      Abend details:                          *
    *                      System abend 0C4 reason code X'11' in   *
    *                      module FMNMAIN CSECT FMNRDR2 at offset  *
    *                      X'9208'.                                *
    *                                                              *
    *                      3. FM/IMS exits the Edit session and    *
    *                      displays one of the following messages  *
    *                      on the Edit Entry or Database Data Set  *
    *                      Specification panel when the user       *
    *                      issues the UP (F7) or TOP command on    *
    *                      the IMS data panel.                     *
    *                      - FMNIA015 'IMS read failed'            *
    *                      - FMNBA009 'Insufficient virtual        *
    *                      storage available'                      *
    *                      - FMNIA194 'The database is empty. Use  *
    *                      the INSERT primary command to insert a  *
    *                      root segment or press PF3/PF12 to       *
    *                      exit.'                                  *
    *                      FM-1407                                 *
    *                                                              *
    *                      4. If a user attempts to edit a DEDB    *
    *                      when none of its areas are available,   *
    *                      FM/IMS displays the IMS data panel with *
    *                      the message "No areas are available or  *
    *                      all the available areas are empty. Use  *
    *                      INSERT command to insert a root segment *
    *                      or press PF3 to exit." You cannot edit  *
    *                      a DEDB when none of its areas are       *
    *                      available, so FM/IMS should just        *
    *                      redisplay the FM/IMS Edit Entry panel   *
    *                      with the message "Database              *
    *                      unavailable".                           *
    *                      FM-1598                                 *
    *                                                              *
    *                      5. FM/IMS hangs after the user issues a *
    *                      FIND command against a DEDB. The        *
    *                      problem occurs when the /DBRECOVERY     *
    *                      command is used to stop programs        *
    *                      accessing the DEDB.                     *
    *                      FM-1588                                 *
    *                                                              *
    *                      6. The NEXT, PREV, FE, FIND, RFIND, CE, *
    *                      CHANGE, RCHANGE, VIEW, ZOOM and SEGSTAT *
    *                      commands cannot be run when a database  *
    *                      has no data or none of its data is      *
    *                      available. However, FM/IMS still        *
    *                      attempts to run them. It should just    *
    *                      issue message FMNIA195 'The xxx command *
    *                      is not active when the database has no  *
    *                      data or none of its data is available.' *
    *                      and return control to the user.         *
    *                                                              *
    *                      Other problems:                         *
    *                      7. FM/IMS does not update the database  *
    *                      with the changes that the CE command    *
    *                      makes when it is issued without the ALL *
    *                      parameter.                              *

    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF.                      *
    ****************************************************************
    Various problems with empty databases.
    

Problem conclusion

  • FM/IMS has been modified to correct these problems.
