Error description

  • Customer issued MVS CANCEL command for QMGR at a failure
    recovery test. They expected that QMGR abnormally terminate,
    CHINIT also terminate, and then both restart successfully.
    However, CHINIT didn't terminate after QMGR abnormal
    termination. CHINIT was hanging until MVS CANCEL command was
    issued. Restart for QMGR, CHINIT succeeded.

    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM MQ for z/OS Version 9 *
    *                 Release 0 Modification 0, Release 1          *
    *                 Modification 0 and Release 2 Modification 0. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If the QMGR terminates unexpectedly, *
    * it is possible that the CHINIT address *
    * space will fail to terminate and will *
    *                      hang indefinitely.                      *
    ****************************************************************
    When the QMGR terminates unexpectedly, the CHINIT should exit.
    An issue with flags set in the CHINIT resulted in it hanging
    instead of exiting cleanly. This issue only occurred when
    SVRCONN channels with a SHARECNV higher than 0 exist.

Problem conclusion

  • An incorrect variable assignment on the async conversation
    state was fixed.
