PH38725: REORG OF A PBR TS ABENDS WITH RC00E40005 IN DSNUGSRP+2164 / ICE046A WHEN PH28092 IS INSTALLED. 21/10/18 PTF PECHANGE

Error description

• PH28092 introduced a REORG enhancement in regard to skip the
  sorting of the clustering partitioned index (PI) and to build
  the PI partitions in parallel during the RELOAD phase.
  
  Running REORG SHRLEVEL CHANGE on a multi-part range partitioned
  TS with only one clustering partitioned IX - that made use of
  the new feature introduced by PH28092 - can lead to DFSORT
  failures:
  - ABND=04E-00E40005 in DSNUGSRP+2164
  - ICE046A (SORT CAPACITY EXCEEDED)
  
  With the increased degree of parallelism and the avoidance of
  the PI sort under PH28092, there are scenarios where REORG might
  under-allocate the sort work data sets required for the mapping
  index sort. This happenes when the size of the PI is
  significantly larger than the size of the mapping index. As
  consequence the above DFSORT errors could happen.

  Code DIAGNOSE TYPE(892) to disable the code introduced by

  User ran a REORG TABLESPACE SHRLEVEL CHANGE on a range
  partitioned table space with a single partitioning and
  partitioned index (PI) defined, which utilized unload reload
  partition parallelism to perform the reorganization with
  message DSNU1160I issued.  With PH28092 / PTF UI71385 applied,
  this REORG was also performing parallel build of the PI
  partitions in parallel with the data reload.  But during
  RELOAD phase execution, one of the index sort task failed
  with ABEND04E RC00E40005 in DSNUGSRP + x'2164' with DFSORT
  message ICE046A sort capacity error.
  The reported problem was caused by incorrect program logic
  where REORG TABLESPACE SHRLEVEL CHANGE was under-estimating the
  size of the sort work data sets for the mapping index sort
  when performing dynamic sort work data set allocations.
  This problem might occur in the above scenario when the size
  of the PI index is significantly larger than the size of the
  mapping index (29 bytes) and SORT is unable to recover from
  the B37 conditions.

Problem conclusion

• Code has been modified to correct the aforementioned issue
  during REORG TABLESPACE SHRLEVEL CHANGE execution.
