  * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL V6.3 who compile   *
  *                 and run programs that are targeted for an    *
  *                 environment where their production machines  *
  *                 are newer than their disaster recovery       *
  *                 systems and would like to have their         *
  *                 applications run optimally on all machines   *
  *                 in their organization.                       *

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: New Function: Up until now, the         *
  *                      compiler has only provided the ARCH     *
  *                      option to specify the machine           *
  *                      architecture for which the executable   *
  *                      program instructions are to be          *
  *                      generated.                              *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION: Install the IBM provided PTF and             *
  *                 specify the new TUNE compiler option         *
  ****************************************************************
  In the case where a users environment
  has newer machines in production and older machines
  for disaster recovery, programmers were forced to specify
  a lower ARCH level than supported by their production
  machines so that the applications would not ABEND
  when executed on their disaster recovery machines.

• New Function: The solution is to introduce the
  TUNE option to the compiler. ARCH should still be set to
  the oldest machine on which a program will run, while TUNE
  should be set to the machine on which the program will
  primarily run.
