PH33362: IBM MQ 9.1 LTS Z/OS:ABEND 0C4-4 AT CSQSSTEV OCCURRED DURING QMGR TERMINATION WHEN SOS

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The 0C4 in CSQSSTEV appears to occur if storage contraction
  occurs after the readahead task has ended as part of queue
  manager shutdown. This is a consequence of the storage shortage.
  In the case the local storage exhausted by subpool 229, key 3
  and then 0c4-4 abend occurred at CSQSSTEV during the
  queue manager termination.
  The queue manager terminated with abend ABN=0C4-00000004,
  U=SYSOPR  ,C=MQ900.910.SMC-CSQSSTEV,M=CSQGFRCV,LOC=CSQSLD1
  .CSQSSTEV after shortage of local storage.
  The abend dump shows PSW Key7 cannot update Key 3 storage
  pointed to by register 8.
  In the case the local storage exhausted by subpool 229,key 3
  and then 0c4-4 abend occurred at CSQSSTEV during the
  qmgr termination.
  The qmgr terminated with abend ABN=0C4-00000004,U=SYSOPR
  ,C=MQ900.910.SMC-CSQSSTEV,M=CSQGFRCV,LOC=CSQSLD1
  .CSQSSTEV after shortage of local storage.
  The abend dump shows PSW Key7 cannot update Key 3 storage
  pointed to by register 8.

  *                      the QMGR was low on storage and the     *
  *                      storage contraction process accessed    *
  *                      a QuickCell Pool whose stack storage    *
  *                      had already been freed.                 *
  ****************************************************************
  The QuickCell Pool was deallocated before the other QPHBs
  on the chain, so the Storage Contraction process attempted to
  access data in the QuickCell Pool Header (QPHB), which had
  already been freed.
  

Problem conclusion

• CSQIRAHP and CSQISTRT have been updated to prevent
  this issue from occurring.
