Error description
Using a MSGEXIT when there is no SYSMDECK DD may cause the compile job to loop. Compile job issues: IEC130I SYSMDECK DD STATEMENT MISSING IGYSI5013-U An error occurred while attempting to open file "SYSMDECK".
Local fix
1- Cancel compile job 2- Add SYSMDECK DD for successful job completion
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of the Enterprise COBOL V6.2 * * compiler running a compile from JCL that is * * missing the required SYSMDECK DD statement * * and also specifies the MSGEXIT compiler * * option. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Infinite loop in abnormal termination * * logic: when a batch compile is * * submitted and the JCL is missing the * * required SYSMDECK DD statement but it * * also specifies the MSGEXIT compiler * * option, it causes the compiler to fall * * into a looping situation. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. * **************************************************************** Even though the compiler does flag the missing SYSMDECK DD statement with an appropriate error message(s), it occurs after the user MSGEXIT has already been located and loaded. This prevented the abnormal termination logic from working correctly.
Problem conclusion
The compiler has been updated so it detects the missing SYSMDECK DD statement earlier, issues appropriate error msg(s) and immediately terminates. This prevents the infinite loop in the abnormal termination logic which was caused by attempting to unload the MSGEXIT and close compiler work files which had not yet been opened.
Temporary fix
