Error description

  • Customer is using CSQ1LOGP utility and he is receiving an
    ABEND 878 when it is used with some archive logs. The storage
    was exhausted below and under the line with blocks with
    eyecatcher MSGP.

    The reason for this failure is as a result of the CSQ1LOGP
    EXTRACT(YES) process attempting to cache a very large unit of
    work.

    UoW represents a series of MQGETs for over 400,000 messages.
    CSQ1LOGP's EXTRACT mode needs to use a 4KB page to keep track
    of each message within a unit of work until it's committed. In
    this case, the 400,000 messages mean a storage requirement of
    around 1.6GB of private 31-bit storage is required in order to
    process this complete UoW which exceeds the private storage
    available in the address space.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When running CSQ1LOGP using *
    *                      'EXTRACT(YES)' on a log that includes   *
    * large units of work, the utility can *
    * run out of 31 bit storage resulting in *
    *                      an 878 ABEND.                           *
    ****************************************************************
    When CSQ1LOGP, doing archive extract, is run against a log with
    large units of work, then the utility can run out
    of storage resulting in an ABEND. The utility's archive extract
    is run in 31 bit addressing mode which limits it to below the
    bar storage.

Problem conclusion

  • CSQ1LOGP archive extract has been changed to run in 64 bit
    addressing mode giving it access to above the bar storage to
    handle large units of work.
