Error description
The reason for the abend is due to a cluster registration leak that is causing the registration area to fill up to a much larger size than expected. The mechanisms used in MQ to enlarge the registration area when this is legitimately required is not currently able to handle the increase of size by more than 16 MB in one instance

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM MQ for z/OS Version 9 * * Release 1 Modification 0 and Release 2 * * Modification 0. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If a cluster QMGR object changes while * * applications have its cluster queues * * open, then a storage leak may occur in * * the local QMGR's cluster registration * * area. * * * * The storage leak would be most * * noticeable when a REFRESH CLUSTER * * command is processed while there are * * many cluster queues with open handles. * * Repeated storage leaks may lead to an * * abend 5C6-00D40082. * **************************************************************** When using MQOO_BIND_ON_OPEN or MQOO_BIND_ON_GROUP, the destination QMGR is bound on the MQOPEN. The binding persists over resultant puts and commits, until either the queue is closed, or the last group message is put. If the destination cluster QMGR object changes, then depending on the previous MQAPI calls, the new cluster QMGR object may be leaked. This can lead to a build up of leaked storage in the cluster registration area, which in extreme cases, can lead to an abend 5C6-00D40082.
Problem conclusion
The storage leak has been resolved. The IBM MQ for z/OS Version 9.1.x and Version 9.2.x Knowledge Center are updated: IBM MQ 9.1.x/9.2.x IBM MQ Reference Messages IBM MQ for z/OS messages, completion, and reason codes IBM MQ for z/OS codes Message manager codes (X'D4') (https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSFKSJ_9.1.0/ com.ibm.mq.ref.doc/codes_d4.html ) (https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSFKSJ_9.2.0/ com.ibm.mq.ref.doc/codes_d4.html ) Added code 00D400B9: " 00D400B9 A cluster cache allocation request exceeded the maximum allowed size. System action The current execution unit terminates with completion code X'5C6'. System programmer response Collect the items listed in Diagnostics and contact your IBM support center. "
