Error description

  • When using the z/OS Connect EE IMS service provider connectivity
issues when pinging IMS resulted in NullPointerExceptions
being reported with the following details:

java.lang.NullPointerException
 at com.ibm.connector2.ims.ico.IMSTCPIPManagedConnection.
    connect(IMSTCPIPManagedConnection.java:303)
and
 at com.ibm.connector2.ims.ico.IMSManagedConnection.
   getIMSConnectVersion(IMSManagedConnection.java:5484)

The following message was also written to the z/OS Connect EE
messages.log when calling IMS transaction services from an API:

BAQR0429W: API contacts encountered an error while processing a
           request under URL <url>.

The z/OS Connect IMS service provider reports a
NullPointerException when logging IMS exceptions or processing
IMS Connect output when there is an issue with the response or
connectivity with IMS connect.

This is an issue in the TMRA embedded with the z/OS Connect
EE IMS service provider which is described in IMS TMRA GitHub
issue 20

  • z/OS Connect EE IMS service provider has been updated to embed
the latest version of TMRA which no longer reports a
NullPointerException when logging IMS exceptions or processing
IMS Connect output when there is an issue with the response or
connectivity with IMS Connect.

The fix for this APAR is expected to be delivered by the PTF for
z/OS Connect EE V3.0.33.0 (PH24143).
