APAR status

  • Closed as new function.

Error description

  • This APAR contains changes that provide support for UTF-8 data
    items in the DWARF debug information generated by programs
    compiled with either the TEST(DWARF) or NOTEST(DWARF) compiler
    options. The resulting DWARF debug information is sufficient
    to perform debug operations on UTF-8 data items in IBM z/OS
    Debugger 14.2.1.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL 6.3 compiling *
    * programs that contain data items defined *
    *                 with the "PICTURE U" clause (i.e., UTF-8     *
    * data items) and then debugging such *
    *                 programs with IBM z/OS Debugger.             *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: New function. For programs compiled *
    * with a compiler having the PTF for this *
    *                      APAR applied, IBM z/OS Debugger 14.2.1  *
    * will be able to correctly display the *
    * value of UTF-8 data items and will also *
    * be able to properly process UTF-8 data *
    * items when they appear in expressions *
    * being evaluated by the debugger. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    The compiler did not produce DWARF debug information that
    accurately described UTF-8 data items defined with the "PICTURE
    U" clause.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

Comments

  • The compiler was updated to produce DWARF debug information that
    accurately describes UTF-8 data items.
