Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL V6.1 who want to   *
    *                 use the RULES(NOEVENPACK) compiler option to *
    *                 find data items defined as PACKED-DECIMAL    *
    *                 but with an even number of digits.           *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Data items that users have no control   *
    *                      over are flagged by the option, such    *
    *                      as Db2 data items that start with DSN   *
    *                      or SQL and CICS data items that start   *
    *                      with DFH or EYU.                        *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF.                      *
    ****************************************************************
    This APAR implements new function for the RULES(NOEVENPACK)
    compiler option, and prevents flagging data items defined by
    CICS and Db2.
    

Problem conclusion

  • RULES(NOEVENPACK) should only flag data items owned by the COBOL
    programmer, not data items defined by other IBM products, and
    this APAR provides a big improvement in this area for
    RULES(NOEVENPACK).
