OA48040: ABEND0C4 IN MODULE ISTRACSW OR ABEND0C6 IN MODULE ISTAPCPS

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The ABEND0C4 in module ISTRACSW occurred while taking a CSDUMP.
  ABEND0C4 occurred due to invalid SRNCB pointer in reg6.
  This was loaded from the overlaid work area.
  Here is the overlaid work area pointed by ATCMSGFP -
  ATCVT + X'220 and it is as follows:

  In other cases, a ABEND0C6 in module ISTAPCPS can occur
  related to VTAM CSDUMP processing.
  The abend in ISTRACSW prevented future CSDUMP commands from
  capturing a dump, the CSDUMP command will complete, but no
  dump is taken. The abend in ISTAPCPS caused a corruption of an
  RDTE chain which resulted in VTAM NOS (ISTNOSxx) component
  abends when VTAM displays are issued which run the RDTE chain
  and hit the corrupted RDTE. NOS abends were seen in ISTNOCLS
  and ISTNOCDD.
  Additonal information:
  Overlay area is pointed ATCMSGFP.
  ATCMSGFP is pointed by ATCVT + X'220'.

  This problem may be described as follows:
    1. VTAM detected an error from the network. It disabled
        the VIT to take the FFST dump. It called ISTRACZX to
        enable the VIT. ISTRACZW used the working storage
        area RACZWKA pointed by ATCMSGFP.
    2. An operator issued Modify CSDUMP command
        to take the dump of VTAM with the default dump
        option.
    3. Module ISTRACSW received control to process the
        Modify CSDUMP command. This module uses the
        same work area RACZWKA pointed by ATCMSGFP.
        It did not clear the work area before using it. This
        caused the ABEND0C4 in the module ISTRACSW.
  

Problem conclusion

• ISTRACSW has been changed to clear the work area
  before using it.
