Error description

    correct form of SWAREQ so that it may continue to function
    correctly.

Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All IBM Tivoli Asset Discovery for z/OS V8.1 *
    *                 customers.                                   *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The method by which the Usage Monitor *
    * SMF exit ascertains the address of SWA *
    * control blocks needs to be improved so *
    * that it will continue to work with *
    *                      future releases of z/OS.                *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Module HSIZU84X is not using the correct form of SWAREQ to
    find SWA control blocks, and so it will not work with
    z/OS releases beyond z/OS 2.1.

Problem conclusion

  • Module HSIZU84X is changed to use the correct form of the
    SWAREQ macro to ensure valid use for all z/OS releases.

    Also added is additional diagnostic data logging to detect bad
    volume serial number collection. Non-blank volume serials of
    used non-UNIX program libraries are validated to detect bad
    data. Ignoring trailing blanks, volume serial characters must
    be numeric, upper case alphabetic, or national or hyphen. If
    any other character is found the volume serial is overlaid by
    a question mark followed by 5 hexadecimal digits. The value of
    the digits will help diagnose the source of the bad data.
